V. F. Winkler. Stylistic features of relief decor in the architecture of the city of Omsk in the 1910s
Abstract
The relevance of this research stems from Omsk’s potential for equal creative dialogue with the cultural centers of the Russian Empire in the 1910s. This explains the incorporation of elements of various European styles into its architecture. The study draws on the biography of the Czech sculptor František (Vladimir) Winkler, the legacy of the Czech architectural school, Western European architectural decoration, and ancient mythology. The author highlights the key stylistic features of Omsk buildings from the 1910s, identifies elements of stucco decoration characteristic of the Western European school, and analyzes their unique adaptation in the Siberian city. The article provides the first comprehensive ex-amination of V.F. Winkler’s work in Omsk as a holistic phenomenon, reflecting the Europeanized architectural decoration of a number of the city’s monumental buildings.
