Culminate Transformation of the Fold in Contemporary Architecture

Abstract

Aesthetic expressiveness has always had a high, unappreciated value for architecture. It is sad to admit that the most modern world architecture objects can hardly be called aesthetically expressive. There are the lack of artistic taste, harmony, organicity, functionality, semantic content. Unfolding for the audience, they do not contribute the culmination (the highest point of emotional tension), but even do not reach the threshold to be called any art. The language of modern architecture is the language of separate, disparate gestures, statements and phrases with spontaneous, random character. Connecting the “fragments” together, which became the goal of this study, is supposed to restore the lost integrity of architecture. The object of this research is a buildings and structures related to folded architecture – based on the concepts of the French poststructuralist philosopher Gilles Deleuze. Research method is the considering of the folded architecture objects in the context of a postmodern language that borrows such linguistic units as metaphor, syntax, semantics, etc. Reaching the culmination, the fold aims at a qualitative transformation of the inner world of a person. Through an image that expresses the aspirations, relentless search of people, people and architecture become inextricably linked to each other.
